NATURAL INGREDIENTS
We use naturally derived ingredients whenever possible from corn, sugar cane, coconut and palm. When we cannot find a plant-derived ingredient that performs to our rigorous standards, we use ingredients from the world of safe synthetics. These are materials with a long history of safety and efficacy in use for people and the environment they live in. At Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day, we do our best every day to make our formulations as natural as possible without compromising freshness, and performance.
Our fragrances contain natural essential oils and other non-natural ingredients to ensure safety, consistent performance and quality. Our products DO NOT contain ammonia, chlorine or phosphates.

BIODEGRADABLE
Mrs. Meyer’s makes environmentally friendly, biodegradable cleaning products. All of our liquid cleaning products will biodegrade. Our powdered products do contain minerals that do not biodegrade; yet they break down into non-harmful decomposition products.
Concentrated Formulations
Whenever possible, Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day uses concentrated formulations to reduce the amount of packaging necessary for our products, and ultimately to save money for our customers. For example, one 32 ounce bottle of our All-Purpose Cleaner will make 16 gallons of cleaning fluid when properly diluted.
Recyclable Packaging
All packaging used by Mrs. Meyer’s is recyclable. Our liquid cleaners use #1 and #2 high-density polyethylene (HDPE) containers, and other products are packaged in recyclable cardboard (dryer sheets) or glass (candles).

INGREDIENT MISCONCEPTIONS
Chemical Free
Honestly, this is an impossible claim to make. Water is a chemical, air is a chemical, essential oils are chemicals, and the world as we know it is a configuration of various carbon chains. The chemists at Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day are committed to making smart, responsible raw material choices and, whenever possible, obtaining materials from renewable plant resources such as olive, coconut, corn and soy.
Anti-bacterial
Our approach is simple — perhaps a bit old-fashioned. We believe in prudent hand washing, hot sudsy water when you clean and launder, and paying particular attention to rooms where germs prefer to roam, such as the kitchen and bathroom. Therefore, you will not find synthetic anti-bacterial or antiseptic ingredients in our household cleaners. Instead, you will find the finest, plant-derived essential oils and earth-friendly cleaning agents, all blended together for a fresh, fragrant and high-performing cleaning experience. We believe in balance when it comes to cleaning your home.
Preservatives
Our products are a mixture of water, plant derived ingredients, essential oils and other fragrance raw materials. Complex mixtures as this are susceptible to micro-contamination during their shelf life and we want our products to be at their optimum freshness and safety during this period of time. We believe it is a greater health hazard to come in contact with a microbiological contaminant than a preservative ingredient. We use preservative ingredients that are highly efficient and are included in our formulations at less than one percent. Our preservatives do not contain formeldehyde.
Organic
We do use naturally derived ingredients like corn and soy whenever possible. However, Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products are not organic in terms of the definition as it is applied to foods. There is great debate within the industry as to how to define organic when related to non-food items like personal care products and cleaning products. We monitor developments in this regulatory arena very closely.
Toxicity
In order to make a true claim of non-toxic – one that is recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency – animal testing is required. Because we do not test on animals, we do not make the claim of non-toxic. We are investigating in-vitro (test tube) methodologies that, in the future, may be able to support our non-toxic formulation process. Our products are safe for use around children and pets, when used as directed.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
These are two different ingredients, but are often erroneously used interchangeably. We do not use sodium lauryl sulfate in any of our products. We do, however, use sodium laureth sulfate. Both ingredients have a long history of safe use and high-performance cleaning. SLES differs from SLS in its mildness to the skin, foaming properties and solubility characteristics.
"Eth"
The process of ethoxylation is used to enlarge molecules, improve mildness, change solubility parameters and foaming properties of certain ingredients. There is some concern that this process produces a by-product that is a known carcinogen. Our raw material suppliers are under strict regulation by the government to eliminate this contaminant and employ a number of procedures to remove it.

CRUELTY-FREE PRODUCTS
No Animal Testing
Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day manufactures cruelty-free cleaning products. None of our products have ever been tested on animals, and never will be.
SAFETY & ALLERGIES
We want a healthy world for ourselves, our families and our pets. That is why Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products are safe to use in the presence of children, pets, and expectant women. There are no solvents, no petroleum distillates, no bleach, no phosphates and no ingredients that could cause harsh fumes. In addition, most of our products have a near neutral pH that makes them safe for skin contact. Simply follow the directions on every product. Please keep in mind that our products are richly fragranced, and some women have increased sensitivity to fragrances during pregnancy – sometimes this creates a very positive feeling, sometimes quite the opposite.
Allergy Specific Information
Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products contain no peanut ingredients, and are not exposed to peanuts in the manufacturing process. Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products are also gluten-free and do not contain any wheat, or wheat-derived ingredients. We do not use any artificial colors in any Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products.
Hypoallergenic
The products are not hypoallergenic due in large part to being highly fragranced. Allergic reactions are individual responses and, if a person has a known allergy to something that may be contained in our products, they will most likely have the reaction to that specific ingredient. The products do not provoke allergies in non-allergic people. Please keep in mind that even natural, essential oils may cause an allergic reaction to people who are allergic to these substances.
